The Grayson County Public Library is seeking a motivated and dedicated Assistant Library Director. They will assist the Library Director in overseeing day-to-day operations and act in supervisory role in Director’s absence. Essential job duties include but are not limited to keeping a full and accurate account of all receipts and payments, managing maintenance of building and office equipment, performs circulation procedures, and prepares schedules under the supervision of the Director.

Full-time, some weekend and evening hours

Salary: $22/hr

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

·GED/High School Diploma

·A minimum of three years of hands-on, daily library experience

·Ability to obtain and keep appropriate Library Certification

· Demonstrated ability to provide effective reference services using a wide range of sources including print, computerized databases, internet sources, and other library sources.

· Excellent communication skills, good organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize.

· Maintains knowledge of standard library principles and practices and concepts of freedom of speech, copyright, collection development, weeding, patron confidentiality, censorship, and other library ethical issues.

· Expertise and proficiency with computers and related hardware, popular library software, internet, and digital communications.

Special consideration for individuals with:

Bachelor’s degree in Library Science or related field

Background in Human Resources

Experience in Bookkeeping.

Specific Duties

· Provide reference services for patrons in-house and off-site (home and business) over the Internet, e-mail, phone, etc.

· Serves as the first line manager for other library employees working the circulation desk.

· Assists with cataloging, classification, and processing of all library materials

· Assists the Director in the development of library policy and procedures.

· Assists in budget preparation, negotiation of expenditures, and grant writing.

· Assists in the development and training of staff and volunteers.

· Promotes library services and programs within the library and the community.

· Evaluates information sources and advises patrons as needed. Assists in the selection and acquisition of materials.

· Attends professional meetings, workshops, and classes.

· Assists in planning, implementation, and evaluation of long and short-term goals and objectives.

· Plans, organizes, and implements special projects as needed or determined by the Director.

· Provides leadership in working relationships and communication, ensuring high productivity and quality public service; encourages initiative and creativity.

· Ensures safe conditions for staff, public, and building operations. Takes appropriate action in building emergencies

· Responsible for computer troubleshooting, software, and machinery.

· Oversees the planning and implementation of library programs that reflect the needs and want of the surrounding communities.

· Performs other related responsibilities as necessary

Physical stamina is required to rearrange furniture and put away materials, and push and pull loaded book carts and other library equipment and materials. Physical activity includes, but is not limited to, prolonged periods of sitting, as well as periods of standing, mobility, stretching, bending and stooping.
